How Georgia-Pacific’s Innovation Doubled Produce Sales for a Major Grocery Chain
They say that nature is the best designer, so displaying vivid fruits and vegetables in a generic brown box just isn’t fitting. When a major grocery store chain wanted to increase its produce sales, it decided to revamp its bell pepper display cases, which were plain and lacked graphics. The chain also decided to relocate the peppers from the produce aisle to the check-out stands to function as an impulse purchase. For a fresh take on its produce that would catch the eyes of shoppers, the chain turned to Georgia-Pacific.
Georgia-Pacific created a customized retail ready bin in an eye-catching octagonal shape that featured:
- Bright and colorful graphics to reflect each grower’s brand
- A bountiful appearance, using a pyramid-style insert and false bottom
- Enhanced space for marketing using a shelf inside the bin to support a promotional stand
After implementing GP’s retail ready solution, pepper sales doubled. Since then, the chain has ordered additional containers for fresh fruit such as such as mangos and citrus. GP has since created and supplied these graphic enhanced solutions for other produce, adapting the bin design and strength according to the weight of the products. Finally, produce has a display bin worthy of its beauty.
